The primary mission of The Government Channel network is to provide live gavel-to-gavel coverage of the Board of Health, City Council, Disability Commission, Licensing Commission, Planning Board, School Committee, Traffic Commission, and Zoning Board of Appeals. However, when those boards are not meeting, the Government Channel provides coverage of various public affairs events. The Government Channel cable operation provides programming by governmental bodies and agencies to inform residents and encourage participation in local government.
