Mass DOT Allston Multimodal Project 7-18-19

Show Details

The Allston Viaduct, which carries the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) from the Allston Interchange to the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge, is nearing the end of its useful lifespan, and must be replaced. With the change to All Electronic Tolling, toll booths in the interchange are no longer needed. These conditions give MassDOT the chance to straighten the Massachusetts Turnpike in Allston and make improvements to multimodal connections in the area. Since the spring of 2014, MassDOT and its Design Team have been developing a concept or the replacement of the Allston Interchange, working with a Task Force composed of local residents, advocates, elected and appointed officials, representatives of local institutions and businesses, and the Allston community at-large.
